Re: Now Peering with Comcast
Ironically, I thought Comcast was always criticized for hindering 3rd party VoIP?

Yeah, they're usually the number 1 target. Lately they've been fine.

Hopefully soon I'll have U-Verse. The DSL is 6 Megs and I actually have U-Verse boxes in a closet but no U-Verse availability. I've been questioning why such a big deal was made about everything being prewired for U-Verse when a year later, it's still not available.
I still prefer the 200Mbps Time Warner connection at the office. :)

In My Dreams!
How many hops is your average for getting off Comcasts network?
We lost 4 when out ISP bought the system from Charter...
Re: Now Peering with Comcast
I had Comcast for years and for the most part they were ok. Quite a few outages though and never an honest answer. I have some friends in their local operations group, so I was able to find out what was going on, besides the obvious overloaded nodes.
Since my VOIP is my landline and since we have storms and hurricanes in the Miami area, when ATT finally offered naked DSL(dry loop), I chose to change. ATT has a far better track record of staying alive during these storms, and with my bunch of UPSs, I keep my necessary boxes alive when the power goes out.
Although I was getting twice the speed at less money with Comcast, I tend to think that the VOIP works better with DSL.
Perhaps Tim's peering with them would have blurred that difference, but I feel more comfortable with the chance of DSL staying up during these outages.

For me it's in the DC on the 5th hop. So 4 on Comcast.

It was the same way here after Ike. Comcast was down for over a month in some neighborhoods. AT&T DSL seemed to be back on for everyone as soon as the power was so not sure if it even went completely down.
