Ironic: Meltdown due to lack of cooling due to lack of electricity at the electricity company.
It wasn't the earthquake that did in the plants, it was the tsunami and poor planning regarding power sources. Also, this "light water" type of reactor is the most popular but is also a design that requires continuous cooling. There are other designs that don't, but the regulatory system is biased in favor of already-deployed technologies.
