    Default DNS Settings

For the most reliable service, it's recommended that you set your ATAs to use 156.154.70.1 or 156.154.71.1 as the preferred DNS server.

This is through Neustar/UltraDNS. These will give you faster resolution times for VOIPo records by giving you direct access to them to pick up changes and it uses AnyCast routing which should speed things up some too. It'll connect to the best route for you in one of the following locations:

    Ashburn VA
    Chicago IL
    Dallas TX
    Miami FL
    New York NY
    Palo Alto CA
    San Jose CA
    London UK
    Luxembourg
    Johannesburg South Africa
    Beijing China
    Sydney Australia
    Hong Kong

There are a ton of DNS queries involved even with registrations and having it set direct is not entirely necessary, but will help make sure you get any changes faster and that the response time is fast.

These will provisioned in for our provisioned users.

PAP2T is obvious, but where do we find the field in the 502 in a non-router config?

It's mixed in with the static stuff under Basic Settings but appears to use it so we were confused too.

The main one is "Preferred DNS".

For good measure, we're populating the "DNS Server 1" and "DNS Server 2" as well.

For provisioned clients that need to use something specific due to their network setup or ISP, we can override it to whatever they need.

Are you going to leave the register time still set to 1 minute for now?

For now, yeah. It's not causing any issues so we'll leave it for the time being.

    Tim..

Another thought after considering the convoluted settings arena on the 502.

Originally the provisioned box had no DNS IP in the field and had the DNS mode in the FXS port tab set to A Record...after a bit, you changed to to SRV mode.

Now after entering an actual DNS IP, assuming the box actually processes it, should we consider which of the 3 DNS mode choices should be set for each line?

I'll leave the primary as 192.168.1.1 for my network, and set the secondary to 156.154.70.1 as a backup.

Since this is what Neustar does, it looks like they made a good choice, providing you don't need their services........
