I am with AT&T and dont want to cancel my number how do I port it without canceling my contract early?
If it was coming from Vonage for example, after the port Vonage offered me a new number versus cancel. With wireless ... I would be cautious. Maybe someone has done that?

I don't think you can port out of a wireless service without canceling it. Are you looking to no longer use that wireless phone? Do you still need the phone but want it to have a different number?
If the former, I'd sign up with a new number and set call forwarding from the wireless phone. If the latter, I do not have a simple solution in mind. The best thing I can suggest (complicated and VERY unsure f it would work) for that situation is to contact the wireless carrier and see if you can sign up with a new line OFF CONTRACT and see if the carrier would be willing and able to switch the contract from the number you want to port to the new line.
How long is remaining on the contract?
You might be able to port out and then go back and create a new account with the carrier to get the ETF waived back. I know with Verizon if you port out and get hit with a ETF you have 30 or 90 days to switch back in which they will credit back the ETF, just not sure if works when getting new phone number.
The other thought is that in this era of declining ETFs, you might find that with 4 months remaining, your ETF is "down" to approximately $75. (Yes, that's still something you'd rather not pay, but it beats $175. ) With Verizon, it's my understanding that if you cancel your account one day before the contract expires, you're still subject to a $60 ETF (unless someone VERY nice at Verizon is able to get it waived for you).
