Weird issue, I got a new Vtech cordless phone system a few weeks ago, call quality on it is SUPERB. Issue is, the dial tone is really snappy or raspy, like when you throw those little snap fireworks on the ground... (it sounds like someone is throwing a lot of those on the ground every second).. Hard to explain. :p

Anyways, it doesn't affect call quality, but when I put the phone on speaker before dialing, it sound really bad. I'm thinking it's the phone system, as my parents have VOIPo + grandstream ATA and there dial tone is crystal clear.

Any ideas? Thanks! Justin

Also, I've tried changing my wireless channel on my router 1-11 and that didn't matter. The Vtech system is DECT 6.0.

The dialtone is generated by your ATA. It could be that the way the Vtech phone digitizes the voice creates a problem with the dialtone sound.

I've heard the same thing with other Vtech phones using POTS, so I would guess it's just the nature of some of their phones.

I have VTech cordless phones (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001S2PKG8/ref=oss_product) with VOIPo and don't notice this issue. Maybe certain models and/or certain runs of phones have this issue? Does it change with the volume of the speaker?

Nope, weather its in handset mode or speakerphone, it makes the raspy noise. No big deal, must be the handsets.

I believe that the dial tone produced by my HT502 is glitchy, as if it's a looping sampled sound rather than a synthesized tone-pair as a POTS does.

But it's a nit.

I checked our handsets again for this issue just to confirm that there's nothing odd, and listening specifically for something like those fun snap fireworks. :) Nothing to report...

Yeah, if you had the "snap" you would know, trust me. I have a very similar phone system - http://www.amazon.com/Expandable-4-Handset-Cordless-Answering-CS6229-4/dp/B001S2PKHC/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1271277138&sr=1-15

No big deal, I think it's the phone not VOIPo.

Strange. Those are the same handsets as mine. Only difference is the base, which has an answering machine built-in (which mine does not).

If you got it from Amazon within the past 30 days, maybe exchange it for a new one?
