Here's an idea I have for Voipo to develop: add a feature where the user gets an email or SMS whenever his adapter or connection goes down. I know calls go to your fail-over choice, but this might help us on our end for trouble-shooting. There might need to be a time delay trigger, to avoid messages generated from a reboot or cable unplug.

Watcha think?

Good idea as an option.

That would need some anti-repeat built into it. (So it does not become like spam!)
It could confuse people who do not understand issues with their ISP.
It could be annoying for those who are transporting their adapter to a new location.
It could be annoying for anybody using a soft phone and had the ATA unplugged.
Perhaps a * code to enable/disable notices?
Maybe the server can confirm/deny device is ping-able in such a notice.
Essentially develop a diagnostics server - maybe support is warned first?

Just brainstorming things needed in a decision tree for such an idea.

Good Ol Dan post (http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r24116106-Re-VOIPoCOM-VoIPo-phone-down-again)

Some of the tools we lost on VPanel recently
(selection of server, as well as inband/SIP info, etc)
would have been handy today.

Thanks!

Dan
Should they ever hit 1,000,000 devices, I would be fearful of everyone with the ability to switch servers at will.

A suggestion for Tim. Maybe a user selectable ALT Server button.
Something more in VOIPo control, but a useful diagnostic.
Perhaps even an opt-in email notice that the server changed.
Some diagnostic server that could include a ping test result too?

Just thinking. :)
