Does Voipo support G.729? I'd like to try using it with Acrobits Softphone on the iPhone.

Thanks,

Hi,

G711 is the only officially supported codec. Feel free to try the softphone, but since 729 isn't officially supported, you're probably not going to get consistent results.

Just a field report here. I have now been testing Acrobits Softphone on the iPhone with G.729 over the AT&T 3G network, and it's been working pretty darn well. Fairly clear sound.

Yeah when it works, it should be fine. The reason we don't "officially" offer is is that some of our upstream carrier partners don't support it so if a call were routed through one of them with G.729 forced, it would fail. Our primary carrier does support it though so as long as calls go through it, it'll be fine.

G.711 is supported by all. You may be able to set it up so it tries G.729 and fails over to G.711. A lot of software does that, but I'm not familiar with the Acrobits to know if it does or not.

Acrobits does let you set priority orders for codecs. And you can do so separately for 3G and WiFi connections.

Interestingly, though, when I set G.729 to top priority and G.711 to second priority for 3G, calls were always connected as G.711. When I disabled all codecs for 3G except G.729, calls were then connected as G.729. And, as I mentioned, in my tests thus far, have functioned fine.

Curious to know if it works well with T-Mobile Edge network?
Also what add-ons if any have you tried?

I am not sure about T-Mobile. I am using Acrobits on an iPhone over the AT&T 3G Network.

If you try it though, please post your experiences here.
