View Full Version : How many ports do this Grandstream thing really need?

I got my Grandstream and plugged it in behind my router, followed the other directions, and it works fine.

Now my question concerns the instructions, which say I should port forward UDP ports 5004 - 65000. This is obviously an insane direction that's meant to reduce support calls and has nothing to do with an actual requirement. So my question is how many ports the Grandstream really needs.

Left to its own devices, it settled on 5078 and 5079, probably because I had a softphone using 5060/61 already.

Does it really need more than one forwarded port per line?

I'd like to know the answer to this question too.

The UDP ports are needed so the server sending UDP call data _to_ you can get to the ATA. If you have a properly configured router, the SIP port rules (5060,5061 etc) are not necessary. Those connections will be built and maintained during registration with the server.
