temporary number

I thought that the temporary number was just to be used until you get your old number ported. It appears that I still have the temp number. If I am allowed to keep this number is there an advantage in using this for port 2 ? If I changed to the temp # on port2 would this mean that I couldn't call my wife while she is in a different part of the house like I can do now with the same number for port1 & port2 ? Would both phones ring when someone called my ported number?.
