I finally made the move and ported my number over (thanks Tim!). For those of you that have done this, how long have you left your account active with your previous provider? As far as I know I should be able to cancel today, but is there any reason for me to wait a few days or more?

As long as the port in is completed and calls to the ported number are ringing through to your new VOIPo line, canceling with your old provider is OK.

In fact, at that point if you needed to go back to your old provider, it would be handled just like a new port would be,so there's really not much of a reason to continue paying for the old service.

Agreed - I canceled the same day my number ported.

I was still paid up with VT so I continued to use them for outbound calls till my contract expired. Then I cancelled them
