Asterisk 1.4 or 1.6?

I'm new to Asterisk and I'm in the process of adding FreePBX + Asterisk to my linux fileserver(Ubuntu 8.10 server). Any tips/advice in installing & configuring VOIPo? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

nnn -> Phone number 1234567890
qqq -> Phone number 1234567890
DID -> Phone number 1234567890

qqq is the secret.
